The Port of Hamburg’s Representative Office in Vienna is expecting a significant rise in volumes after key shipping services including those for the U.S. were switched from other ports to Hamburg in late 2018, according to Alexander Till, Director of the Austrian branch. End of year figures should be positive as Austria handles large volumes of U.S. exports.
Networking with global trade lanes
The Port of Vienna is the most important logistics hub in Austria. In recent years, more than 400,000 TEU have been handled there. A large volume is generated from traffic to and from Hamburg. The Hanseatic city has been the most important port for Austrian industry in terms of containerised transport for over 30 years. Some 250 connections link up Vienna with the Port of Hamburg.
