Organisers expressed satisfaction Sunday with the 829th Port Anniversary celebrations (May 10-13, 2018), which attracted 1.3 million visitors in sunny weather. The world’s biggest celebrations of its kind presented a diverse maritime-themed programme in Hamburg. This year’s four-day festival, extended by a bank holiday, unfolded along the Landungsbrücken, in Speicherstadt, HafenCity, Museumshafen Ovelgönne, Grasbrookhafen and Fischmarkt. The 830th Port Anniversary Celebrations will be held from May 10-12, 2019 in Hamburg.
South Africa – partner country
Frank Horch, Senator for Economics, Traffic and Innovation, remarked: “We have celebrated our port’s anniversary with the people of Hamburg and many guests from all over the world in a peaceful atmosphere.” South Africa, this year’s partner country, met with praise. Horch noted: “Hamburg and South Africa both have great maritime traditions. As part of our partnership, we held intense talks about the opportunities of economic collaboration against the backdrop of digitalisation.”
Agreement on co-operation
The South Africa Festival on Kehrwiederspitze featured many aspects of South African culture and typical foods and highlighted tourist destinations in the country around the Cape of Good Hope. Several economic delegations had arrived in Hamburg for the occasion. The north German digital cluster Hamburg@work and the Silicon Cape Initiative in Cape Town and the Western Cape regions signed Wednesday (May 9, 2018) an agreement on co-operation in the Chamber of Commerce Hamburg.
