On Sunday, 2 August 2015, MSC welcomed business partners and their families, the vessels’ shipbuilders DSME, classification society DNV-GL, local authorities and financiers to attend the christening of today’s world largest container ship. The vessel was named after the daughter of MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Mr. Pierfrancesco Vago and MSC Group CFO Mrs. Alexa Aponte Vago. MSC Zoe is the third of the company’s ‘Oscar class’ series of 19,224 TEU vessels.
Named after Four-Year old Daughter
The christening ceremony is an important moment in the life of the ship and her crew and is an occasion steeped in tradition. It involves the exchange of the vessels crest, breaking a bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull and the ceremonial ribbon cutting on the bridge. Mr. and Mrs. Vago, together with four-year old Zoe, attended the event along with close friends and family.
