Successful Test Of Hamburg's third Cruise Terminal

Maiden call of MSC Splendida Maiden at Hamburg's new Steinwerder terminal

MSC Cruises, the world’s largest privately-owned cruise line and the market leader in the Mediterranean and South America, celebrated the maiden call of MSC Splendida at Hamburg’s third and new cruise terminal Steinwerder on 27 May at 5.30 a.m. At 8 a.m., the guest shift of approximately 7,000 passengers startee. The release of the mega-liner was the first real stress test for the new terminal, which the Cruise Center Steinwerder passed with flying colors.

Well Equipped for Large Vessels

Two separate terminal building ensure the smooth flow for entering and exiting passengers. Thus, Steinwerder is perfectly equipped for ships likeMSC Splendida, which is representative of a new generation of ships in size, equipment ,and comfort. During the test run, not only guests arrived aboard of MSC Splendida. The vessel’s crew also took food aboard for the 12-night cruise to Norway and the North Cape. On a trip of this duration, the consumption of food is high, including, among others, some 60,000 kilos of fresh fruit and vegetables, 41,000 fresh eggs, 14,000 liters of milk, and 10,000 kilos of fish.

Abound MSC Splendida

MSC Splendida is the first ship from the Company’s flagship “Fantasia” generation – the largest and newest – to be based at the northern German port for a season. The 137,936 GRT, 333 metre-long, 38 metre-wide and 1,637-cabin MSC Splendida will homeport in Hamburg for the summer season, making 13 sailings around northern Europe, encompassing the British Isles, the Norwegian fjords and Iceland.
