The Hamburg-based Starcar put 100 partially electric vehicles (plug-in hybrids) into operation Wednesday (August 29, 2018) at BMW’s metropolitan branch during an event attended by Frank Horch, Senator of Economics, Transport and Innovation. This marks one of the largest new purchases of electric vehicles in Germany’s car rental sector.
Free parking facilities
“We want to set impulses and show that e-mobility not only works in theory, but is a real alternative in metropolitan areas. Our customers will love these plug-in hybrids not only for their driving experience, but also because of the free parking for e-vehicle users,” said Olaf Puttlitz, Managing Director of Starcar. The e-vehicles on offer are now available for rent, have a Hamburg traffic permit and will be used at various Starcar stations inside and outside Hamburg.
Improving electric mobility
A strategic partnership for sustainable urban mobility has existed between BMW and the City of Hamburg since May 2017. This extends to various innovative measures for developing sustainable solutions for urban transport. The first step is a joint strategic approach to improving the framework conditions for electric mobility. Hamburg is focusing on the expansion of publicly accessible charging infrastructure and has 761 charging points under municipal control, 59 of which are fast charging stations.
