Jungheinrich’s horizontal order picker ECE and the electric ride-on pallet truck ERE have won the “German Design Award 2018” in the transportation category, a press release said Friday (October 20, 2017). The jury praised the high-quality ergonomic design of ECE, its robustness and powerful performance while the compact manoeuvrability of ERE with the comfort of a stand-on truck made it a winner.
New design concepts
Michael Niebuhr, Head of Industrial Design at Jungheinrich AG, said: “Design is more than just the appearance of our products to us. It is the face of our company, part of our success and the visual expression of quality and innovative power. In 2016, we at Jungheinrich redesigned the driving concepts of our vehicles to create unmistakeable products for the future.”
Many winners from Hamburg
Several fledgling, Hamburg-based companies such as Ankerkraut, wingu and the juice company Kale&Me were among winners in other categories. Remarking on the win, Annemarie Hey, founder of Kale&Me-told Hamburg News: “It’s a very special award for us because we developed the design with a freelance employee ourselves.”
Discovering new design trends
Around 43 experts from Germany, China, Britain, Hong Kong, Italy Sweden, Turkey and the United States form the German Design Council. The winning products and projects were selected from over 5,000 entries. According to the hosts, the “German Design Award” identifies and presents unique design trends to advance the design-oriented industry. The awards will be presented on February 9, 2018 in Frankfurt am Main.
