Highlights of 829th Port of Hamburg's anniversary celebrations

Beautiful ships and lots of concerts during 2018 port celebrations

Over 300 vessels are expected at the four-day, 829th Port Anniversary celebrations in Hamburg from May 10-13, 2018. The arriving vessels range from majestic tall ships like Kruzensthern, Mir, Sedov and Alexander von Humboldt II to beautifully restored museum ships such as the deep-sea tugs Elbe and Holland, the Borkumriff light ship and modern cruise ships. Maritime vessels such as the Augsburg frigate and vehicles driven by waterway police, fire services, customs’ authorities among others will also take part in the world’s biggest port festival. Visitors can also go aboard vessels during the Open Ship event.

Elbphilharmonie concerts on screen

The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra will perform live from the Elbphilharmonie’s Grand Hall at 8 pm on May 10, 2018. The concert will be screened outside on “Platz der Deutschen Einheit” near the Elbphilharmonie. During the 3rd Hamburg International Music Festival, Krzysztof Urbański and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra will perform Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” and “Star Wars’” film scores by John Williams.

Music and festivities

Artists from Germany and abroad will also give free concerts on over ten stages along the festivity mile with shanty music, rock and pop and heavy metal. The broadcaster NDR will have a great mix of bands and stars on it’s stage near the old Elbe tunnel.
