IAME 2016 to hold annual shipping conference in Hamburg

International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) holds first event in Germany. Global scientists to discuss latest research

The “maritime transport of the future: the role of innovation uptake, sustainability and availability of shipping finance” is the main theme of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) conference to be held in Hamburg from August 23-26, 2016 – the first ever in Germany. The conference brings together academics from all over the world to a different location every year.

Support from TU Hamburg-Harburg and the University of Hamburg

The four-day conference will be held in the Kühne Logistics University (KLU) and the HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration and includes keynote speeches, workshops as well a multi-faceted accompanying programme. The venues will have the support of TU Hamburg-Harburg, the University of Hamburg and the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services

Frank Horch, Senator for Economics and Traffic, sees plenty of need for action, and said: “We have to take the changes in the world seriously. We are adjusting strategically to the latest developments in the shipping sector with the port development plan. The port is undergoing constant change. We hope to gain new, important impetus for the further development of shipping and the port of Hamburg from IAME’s annual conference.”

500 individual members and 20 member companies

Founded in the 1990s, IAME now has over 500 individual members and 20 member companies. The association has official partnerships with academic journals such as “Maritime Policy & Management” and “Maritime Economics & Logistics”.
