Cruise Business Restructured In Hamburg

Cruise Gate Hamburg GmbH (CGH) formed as a joint venture between the HPA and Flughafen Hamburg GmbH (FHG) as new operator of Hamburg's three terminals

As part of the restructuring of the cruise business in Hamburg, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and the City of Hamburg founded CGH Terminaleigentumsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (TEG) in March 2014. The company will become the owner of the Cruise Center Steinwerder at Kronprinzkai, the construction of which is progressing as planned. In a second step, terminal operator Cruise Gate Hamburg GmbH (CGH) was formed as a joint venture between the HPA and Flughafen Hamburg GmbH (FHG) on 12 September 2014. The HPA has a 51 per cent share in CGH, while FHG holds 49 per cent. In February 2015, Sacha Rougier (48) was officially appointed as managing director of the Cruise Gate Hamburg GmbH. Mrs Rougier came from the Port of Marseille where she previously held the position as Cruise Business Development Manager.

Expertise From Marseille

“We are delighted to have Sacha Rougier joining the management board of Cruise Gate Hamburg GmbH. She is a highly experienced cruise shipping expert with an international background, who is familiar with both operations and the industry,” says Jens Meier, Chairman of the Management Board of the HPA and member of the supervisory board of the new company. Cruise Gate Hamburg GmbH will promote Hamburg as a cruise destination and advance the restructuring of the cruise business in Hamburg. The new company will in future be the single point of contact for all cruise lines. This includes both operations of and berth assignment at all of Hamburg’s cruise terminals.
CGH will conclude licensing agreements that cover the management of passengers, luggage and provisions so that cruise lines will be able to choose their partners as they wish.

“The implementation of CGH and the associated restructuring of the cruise business is the continuation of the City of Hamburg’s efforts to develop the cruise industry in Hamburg. The close interaction between the port and the airport substantially contributes to the successful operation of the terminals, ensuring smooth turnaround services for cruise vessels of the latest generation,” says Michael Eggenschwiler, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Hamburg GmbH.
