Thus, the booming port of Hamburg Metropolitan Region on the banks of the Lower Elbe river is now the sole operator of the Kiel Canal’s heavy load port at Osterrönfeld. Since 1 January 2016 , HaGe port had continued the 50% joint venture participation of AHLMANN ZERSSEN GmbH + Co KG in Rendsburg Port GmbH under a new name.
Successful First Four Years
Transhipment activities in the port of Rendsburg only began four years ago. The newly built port has been operated jointly in equal shares by the AHLMANN ZERSSEN GmbH + Co KG and the Brunsbüttel Ports GmbH. The take-over makes Brunsbüttel Ports the sole shareholder operator of Rendsburg Port GmbH. It is represented by the managing director Frank Schnabel. Both port owners and operators want to promote the positive development process for the port and for the region.
Heavy Load Port for Onshore Wind Industry
“The port has been experiencing a very successful development since its commissioning. Its size and warehousing area was expanded, a new hall, offices and social rooms were built, and new business was acquired continuously. The Port of Rendsburg Port confirmed its position as heavy load port, in particular for the onshore wind energy sector. This success story we want to update permanently”, says Frank Schnabel.
Hub for Northern Germany
The heavy load port is specialised in the handling of heavy duty components and large piece goods such as wind turbines. Over the past three years, the Port of Rendsburg Port developed into an important hub for onshore wind power components in northern Germany. For the handling and storage of wind turbine segments, the owners thus created additional space.
The past fiscal year shows the increasing utilization of the port: 183 ships were handled in 2015, representing almost a 50 per cent increase in the Port of Rendsburg Port. Staff figures were increased by six.
