Hamburg traditionally has close links with Britain. Around 1,000 Hamburg-based companies do trade and have business relations with British companies. Some 17.5 per cent of Hamburg’s economic output is likely to be affected by Brexit, according to an EU study. Last year, the Hamburg Senate set up a co-ordinating office to prepare the city for Britain’s withdrawal from the EU. The office helps those affected to prepare for Brexit. Following the sobering outcome of Brexit negotiations last week, the senate has been forced to focus even more intensively on a “no deal” scenario, i.e. an unregulated Brexit.
