The regional initiative for the media and digital industries, nextMedia.Hamburg, has renamed the Webfuture Award now in its tenth year, nextMedia.Elevator adding a prestigious note. However, the event’s goal remains unchanged and the search is on for young companies with promising digital, business models. Start-ups in Hamburg have until May 15, 2017 to submit their pitch-decks and become one of ten finalists. The winner will receive their award during a ceremony in bethaus Hamburg on June 14, 2017.
Cash prize and diverse contacts
Similar to the former Webfuture Award, the new nextMedia.Elevator award offers the competing start-ups a cash prize and contacts to all kinds of investors and experts in the start-up scene. The finalists will present their business models in five-minute “Business-Idea Speed-Dating” sessions to the jury. This year’s jury includes Dr. Heiko Milde of IFB Innovationsstarter, Tobias Seikel of Hanse Ventures, Eva-Maria Bauch of Gruner + Jahr, and Sebastian Ritt of Haspa. The first prize winner of the nextMedia.Elevator award receives EUR 5,000 in cash. The second prize winner receives EUR 2,000 and EUR 1,000 goes to the contestant in third place. Commenting on the importance of the contest, Veronika Reichboth, Project Manager at nextMedia.Hamburg, said: “Transforming new business ideas is hugely important for Hamburg as a centre of commerce. Thus we support start-ups in the Hanse city from the start. Our new name shows that both the start-up award and our founders’ innovative ideas are going with the times.“
“Startup Infusion” – new series of workshops for digital start-ups
nextMedia.Hamburg and betahaus Academy are launching a new series of workshops targeting start-ups in the digital sector. From April 26, 2017, select experts will answer queries by founders with digital business ideas on seven so-called “Startup Infusion” dates. Beginning with Marc Alexander Holtz, a representative of dpa’s news aktuell, talks will focus on how entrepreneurs can develop sensible and sustainable communication strategies.
Additional workshop for Hamburg
Reichboth noted: “Our goal is to pick up on subjects that are crucial to digital start-ups and to offer them practical expertise. The speakers will get the start-ups actively involved and focus on their individual needs. We also want to establish an additional type of workshop in Hamburg tailored to start-ups with digital business ideas and offering them affordable, understandable and relevant know-how.“
After the opening session, a series of talks with experienced keynote speakers will be continued. New topics like project management, social media advertising or internationalisation will be on the agenda every month.
