Start-ups in Hamburg can avail of all kinds of networking events, consultation hours and talks for insight, encouragement and feedback. The following is an overview of the most important events:
1. Digitalisation interface – 12min.me talks
The so-called 12min.me talks focus on virtual reality, artificial intelligence or robotic issues. The rules are simple – each participant can talk about a random issue for 12 minutes maximum. A bell sounds loudly to signal the end. Then the audience has 12 minutes maximum to ask questions. Three talks per evening are held and the intermission leaves plenty of time for networking over drinks and snacks. During an exciting “12min.me Startup Slam”, start-ups present amusing presentations and vie for the audience’s attention. The volume of the applause after each presentation decides the winner. The next event entitled “12min.MED – Life Science” will be held on Wednesday (March 8) in the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) where three speakers will highlight how doctors and entrepreneurs can achieve innovations together. The original event, “12min.me – Ignite Talk”, will be held on March 9 in Absolute Software GmbH on Jungfernstieg and focusing on digitalisation. Visitors are advised to register early for both events.
The Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank holds monthly workshops to promote and help founders fund their companies. The next session on March 9 will focus on the basics of financing and give aspiring start-ups an overview of suitable public funding programmes. Participants should have a concrete business idea and a good estimate of their required capital. Those interested are advised to register early, as participant numbers are limited to 12.
3. Nordstarter Crowdfunding Club for a course to success
Financing also tops the agenda at the Nordstarter Crowdfunding Club. Successful crowdfunding, the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, is by no means a given and requires plenty of diligence. Participants can learn how to prepare a campaign and what factors can influence the result. The next, free Nordstarter Crowdfunding Club will be held on March 30 in Mindspace Hamburg. Participants are advised to register early.
4. nextMedia.Hamburg’s consultation-hour for start-ups
Back to basics is the idea behind nextMedia.Hamburg’s consultation-hour for start-ups, which is held on every second Monday and next on March 13. The urban initiative is the first point of contact for digital start-ups where they obtain an overview of offers by urban institutions and partners, networks and those of nextMedia.Hamburg. Participants are advised to make a prior appointment. Consultations are held in Mindspace co-working space and in betahaus and Shhared.
5. “My first firm” – Hanse Ventures at LaborX
The LaborX for Entrepreneurship is an interactive event series during which start-ups present their business idea and develop it with both experts and the audience. Entrepreneurs from all kinds of sectors in the early or later phases of founding can analyse their concept, improve their chances of success and network with other start-ups and professionals. The next event will be held on March 28 in the company builders Hanse Ventures. Jochen Maaß, founder and CEO of Hanse Ventures, will give a talk on “My first firm“.
6. Hamburg Startups Mixer
The Hamburg Startups Mixer gives young entrepreneurs an opportunity to network with each other. The event by the private initiative Hamburg Startups is held regularly and focuses on diverse issues and most recently on Food-Startups. During Social Media Week, start-ups also met other players in Hamburg’s start-up scene. The date of the next Hamburg Startups Mixer meeting will be announced on the Hamburg Startups website.
