Second round of funding for local music labels underway

Apply now for Ministry of Culture and Media's grants

Applicants have until the deadline of August 28, 2019 to apply for grants of EUR 3,000 to EUR 10,000 from the Ministry of Culture and Music for small music labels. Both newcomer projects and established artists in any genre are eligible for the funds. This comes after a study on the Future of Music Use conducted by the University of Hamburg found that almost 40 per cent of Germans are willing to spend money on music. Driven by digitalization the music industry is undergoing major changes, but the value of music remains unchanged.

Hamburg benefiting from diverse music scene

The development of artistic productions often goes hand in hand with a high entrepreneurial risk. The funds help small music labels in Hamburg in terms of production, marketing and promotion, which benefits the city in the long-term. Jana Schiedek, State Councillor for Culture and Media, said: “We need this diversity of music culture so that the seal ‘music from Hamburg’ can continue to be associated with quality and creativity.” A total of 14 Hamburg music labels received grants during the first round of funding.
