The Online Marketing Rockstars attracts around 25,000 top, expert delegates and speakers every year and is the biggest event of its kind in Europe. This year, Philipp Westermeyer, founder of the festival which gets underway on March 2-3, 2017, has promised lots of inspiration, ideas, prospects and anecdotes all about the latest marketing issues. He noted: “We want to try and set up an event in Hamburg which shines far beyond the borders of the city and those of Germany. To do so, we need the city’s support. I think if we can achieve that, we will have done a good, very valuable job for Hamburg.”
Partner – Hamburg Media School
Meanwhile, the number of delegates has risen to over 5,500, which is incredible, according to Prof. Dr. Armin Rott, a professor of Media Economy at Hamburg University and Academic Director of Media Management at the Hamburg Media School, who usually opens the annual conference.
Westermeyer is his former student and founded the festival in 2010 with the school. Rott has expressed pride in his alumnus and noted: “The OMR shows what is possible in Hamburg with true entrepreneurial spirit and some tailwind from the Hamburg Media School. The small, regional expert event has morphed into an international industry event.” As a founding partner, Hamburg Media School has been on board from the start and holds 53 master classes to ensure that marketing experts give delegates profound insight into each theme.
Role models – Google and Facebook
Apart from international digital marketing stars, select experts in the German marketing scene will share their knowledge as well. Asked about the key to the festival’s success, Westermeyer said: “Certainly, one reason is the fact that the sector is being buoyed by a tremendous tailwind. Digital marketing has become a big issue. The world’s most valuable companies like Google and Facebook are ultimately digital marketing companies. Hopefully, we will also be offering great content and a good show as well.”
Online Marketing Rockstars going international?
Networking is a top priority for many delegates. Some 200 established and aspiring digital marketing companies present their products and services on over 25,000 square metres of space. The first day ends with the big expo party and the legendary after show party rounds off events on the second day. Around 40 side events by partners and sponsors are held alongside the main show and are ideal for networking. Entertainment is a highlight of the Online Marketing Rockstars Festival and this year’s musical acts are likely to hold a few surprises in store. They follow groups like Deichkind, Fettes Brot, Jan Delay or Udo Lindenberg in previous years. Commenting on the future, Westermeyer said: “At the moment, we are working full steam to deliver on March 2-3. When we have achieved that, we will have new ideas and want to try out other things on an international level. We hope to find digital marketing friends in other European countries.”
