Perfect match - Food Innovation Camp 2018

Hamburg Startups creating launching pad for food start-ups

The private initiative Hamburg Startups and the Gastgewerbe-Magazin are hosting the “2nd Food Innovation Camp” on July 2, 2018 in the Chamber of Commerce Hamburg. The event aims to attract innovative start-ups in the food and beverage sector, food-technology, logistics and the hospitality sectors as exhibitors and/or guests.

Over 500 matchmaking talks

Around every tenth start-up launched in Hamburg has a business idea in the catering sector. According to the Hamburg Startup-Monitor by Hamburg Startups, around 12.7 per cent of companies originate in the food sector. They include start-ups with vegan or super food ideas e.g. purefood or Kale&Me and others such as Foodist or icakeyou who have come up with innovative ways of selling food. Sustainability is high on the agenda for many start-ups. Hamburg is popular among innovative food and catering companies and is thus ideal for bringing such start-ups together.

The first Food Innovation Camp in 2017 proved a success, according to the organisers. Over 1,100 visitors and 78 exhibitors flocked to the event that included 500 matchmaking sessions between food start-ups and decision makers in trade, catering and investors.

Food Award

Several hundred guests are expected at this year’s event where rounds of speed dating and matchmaking will bring start-ups together with retailers and wholesalers, catering representatives, investors and potential co-operating partners. The supporting programme will focus on new food trends, food technology, logistics and the hospitality sector and feature workshops on knowledge transfer for SMEs. Start-ups will also have an opportunity to pitch their business models on stage to wholesalers, retailers and potential investors. Several prizes including the Hamburg Startups Food Award will be presented as well. A jury will select the winning start-ups beforehand.
