Around 800 invited guests from business, politics and society gathered in the Fish Auction Hall in Hamburg-Altona on Monday evening, September 16, 2019. The 18th Hamburg Founder’s Prize was awarded here in the categories Entrepreneur, Achiever and Life’s Work: The founders of the Healthcare startup Sympatient, Philipp Westermeyer with his Event Online Marketing Rockstars and Cultural Manager Norbert Aust were able to secure the highly sought-after awards for Entrepreneurial Initiative, Courage and Success. The Hamburg Founder’s Prize is awarded every year by the Hamburg Sparkasse savings bank, the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper, Hamburg1 Television, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Skilled Trades, as well as Studio Hamburg and the Fish Auction Hall.
Treating Phobias with VR
Hamburg-based Sympatient received the Entrepreneur’s Prize. Julian and Christian Angern set up the healthcare startup along with Benedikt Reinke in 2017. They developed medical virtual reality apps for treating phobias, using an app with psychotherapeutic content that faces up to the patient’s phobias in a controlled way by means of VR exercises.
OMR – Platform for the Global Digital Economy
Philipp Westermeyer came away with the Achiever award with his platform for online marketing creators – Online Marketing Rockstars (OMR). Since being set up in 2011, the OMR Festival has evolved into one of the leading digital marketing conferences in Europe. The two-day event at the Hamburg Trade Fair Halls drew more than 50,000 visitors in May this year, including international stars and top-level digital experts from all over the world. Apart from the conference, OMR regularly publishes articles on the digital sector, broadcasts a podcast, organizes jobs fairs and special events and puts out analyses and guidelines for the digital economy.
Commitment to the Hamburg Cultural Scene
The award in the category Life’s Work, went to the Hamburg businessman and cultural manager Norbert Aust. As president for years of the University for Economics and Politics, Professor Aust has been closely involved in the Hamburg cultural arena. He is a founding member and was the first chairman of the sponsoring association for the Kampnagel cultural centre, co-founder and long-term managing director of the Schmidt Theatre and founder of the Hamburg School of Entertainment. In addition, Aust is the chief executive of the Hamburg Tourist Association and sits on the supervisory board of Hamburg Marketing GmbH. His latest project is Hotel Pierdrei, which he is implementing in the HafenCity along with other prominent residents of Hamburg. The hotel is scheduled to be opened by the end of 2019.
