University of Hamburg develops "Hafen der Wissenschaft" app - EUR 10,000 per year from city

A free mobile phone app called “Hafen der Wissenschaft“, developed by the University of Hamburg, is now available for download from Apple App Stores, a press release said Tuesday (August 8, 2017). The app contains news about scientific institutions such as European XFEL and the latest academic conferences in Hamburg. The app presents the entire science landscape on a virtual card and integrates content from the “Hamburg Open Online University” platform as well.

The idea behind the app is to bring science in Hamburg closer to the public. “This app brings science even closer to the city and has better information offers for people about events in Hamburg’s scientific institutions. You just have to click once to dip into science in the city,” said Katharina Fegebank, Senator for Science, Research and Equality.

Computer science – key discipline

The city of Hamburg is putting EUR 10,000 annually towards maintenance and upkeep of the ioS app. “Digital transformation affects nearly every aspect of our lives. We are shaping this change, using its benefits and strengthening computer science which is the key discipline for digitalisation,” said Fegebank.
