The VIA! VUT Indie Awards 2015, i.e. the critics awards of the independent music industry, have been granted at the Reeperbahn Festival in six categories in Schmidts Tivoli in Hamburg. For the third time, the awards of the Association of Independent Music Companies (VUT) have been recognising outstanding talent in quality and novelty regardless of commercial success.
This year, the VUT Indiedays have been part of Reeperbahn Festival for the first time, with the prizegiving gala as hightlight of the event. The Reeperbahn Festival, Germany’s most important event in the music industry, will end on Saturday (26.9.). For the first time after six years in Berlin, the renowned digital conference NEXT also returned to the Hanseatic city, running parallel to Reeperbahn Festival.
This year, the VUT members have chosen Antelope, a manuafacture of smart sportswear from Frankfurt, as winner in the “Best Newcomer” category. The award was presented to them by Campino (Die Toten Hosen) and Helen Smith (IMPALA). “Die Nerven§ were distinguished in the “Best Act” category, with the award presented to them by Rick McPhail (Tocotronic). The prize for the “Best Album” was handed to Malky for “Soon” by Johnny Haeusler. After the award ceremony, Modeselektor hosted a wild party.
