HANS moves to new location

Prestigious Hamburg music award to be granted on 26 November at Markthalle. Distinctions in eight categories.

On 26 November, the Hamburg Music Prize HANS will be awarded this year. In its sixth year, HANS will move to new premises, with the awards being granted for the very first time in a legendary location: Markthalle Hamburg. Previous venues included the rock venue Gruenspan and Mojo Club.

Famous stage of international bands

“With its long concert tradition and cultural significance, the Hamburg market hall is an excellent venue for the prize-giving ceremony of the music awards. We are looking forward to an exciting evening in new atmosphere, “says Uriz of Oertzen, co-founder of HANS and CEO of the initiative of Hamburg’s music industry (IHM).
37 years ago, the market hall opened its doors for the first time. In no time, the event centre next to the main train station established itself as a prestigious concert venue, with bands performing such as The Police, The Clash, Blondie, Ultravox, and Ramones. In addition, theatre projects and readings, for example by Charles Bukowski and Timothy Leary, complemented the programme. “HANS will feel very comfortable in this environment”, rejoices von Oertzen.

Distinctions in eight categories

The Hamburg Music Prize HANS is a jury award that honours particularly innovative, creative and artistic achievements. Prizes are granted in eight categories – from “Hamburg Artist of the Year” to “Hamburg label of the Year”. A 15-member jury will decide on the winners. “Hamburg is a city of music – and each year, the HANS ceremony shows how diverse, vital and innovative music scene is in Hamburg”, says N-JOY program director and HANS-jury member Norbert Grundei. All awards come without any prize money, the only exception being the HANS in the category “Young Hamburg artist of the year”, which is endowed with 2,000 euro.
Since its launch in 2009, radio, TV and Internet the North German Broadcasting Corporation NDR have been supporting the Hamburg Music Prize HANS. Furthermore, the Hamburg Kreativgesellschaft mbH and Hamburger Volksbank are committed to the HANS.
