Hamburg's Chamber of Commerce launches second app contest

Deadline for applicants ongoing. Competition is backed by several firms and institutions

The Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg announced Monday (August 15th) the second “App Contest Hamburg” under the motto “Hamburg has the best…apps and app developers”. Commenting on the objectives, Prof. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, said: “We stand by our goal of making Hamburg a stronghold of mobile applications. This year’s contest has been designed to showcase the location and show where Hamburg is presently. “ The contest is targeting talented developers, start-ups and established firms in Hamburg.

Deadline expires in late October

Applicants can submit their apps, regardless of whether they are complete or in the beta stage, by October 31, 2016 on An independent expert jury will select the best software applications. And the winners will receive a cash prize of EUR 14,000 during the closing, festive ceremony on November 29. Special prizes will go to the best entries from the financial, media and tourism sectors as well as the best project by school pupils.

Diverse Hamburg-based firms taking part

In 2010, the Chamber of Commerce termed the economic, innovative potential of developing apps a beacon of its “Hamburg 2030” project. More than 100 contestants entered the first “App Contest Hamburg” in 2014/2015. Smaato Inc., Hamburg Marketing, Airbnb, Generation Digitale, Finanzplatz Hamburg e.V., NextMedia.Hamburg, and the Initiative App Camps are among the sponsors of this year’s competition.
