Christmas is a coming and Hamburg has donned its glad rags, hung up festoons and many colourful, sparkling lights throughout the city on Christmas trees and at several festive Advent markets. This year, Hamburg Tourismus GmbH took to the streets to have a closer look at the goings-on and the pre-Christmas cheer. A film clip gives an idea of their adventures.
Organisers and planners
The film of the campaign “Holy Hamburg” shows the organisers, the artists, poets and thinkers behind the fairytale winter wonderland across the Hanse city. Several hundred people have spent weeks working hard and going to great effort and care to set up the traditional Christmas markets.
As soon as the markets opened, the film crew went from one mulled-wine selling stand to the next and encouraged people of different origin to sing the popular Christmas carol “Silent Night” in their own languages. And their renditions are delightful.
Tastes of Christmas
Then the team visited many diligent people working behind the scenes in cafés and at Christmas markets to create festive cheer. The interviewees tell a tale or two about their work during the busy weeks.
Advent is also the season of feasts and Hamburg Tourism has highlighted various Christmas delicacies served in restaurants near the Christmas markets. Many menus have an array of both unusual and novel Christmas dishes for guests.
