The first phase in constructing the Hamburg Innovation Port marked its topping-out ceremony on Thursday (November 29, 2018). The project plans to accommodate a range of functions, hosting a scientific institute, an incubator, a technology centre and space for innovative programmes. Business start-ups with a research and technology focus will be facilitated, technology transfer accelerated and Hamburg’s innovative capacity boosted.
Enhancing exchange and cooperation
“With Hamburg Innovation Port, space, laboratories and coworking spaces for startups, research facilities and technology-based companies will be made available, thus enhancing networking between business and science right here in Channel Hamburg – in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg Technical University, the German Aerospace Centre and the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services. In addition, the preconditions for establishing an entrepreneurial and startup environment will be improved,” said Senator Michael Westhagemann.
Innovative and creative changes
By means of the innovation parks, the Senate has set itself the target of creating the best possible conditions for taking innovative ideas to market-readiness, for developing products and for setting up and siting companies. Senator Westhagemann continued: “Only close proximity between business and science is able to create a climate that stimulates applied research and development and boosts networking between companies with research facilities.”
