Eight projects by artists in Hamburg’s independent scene are to receive grants of EUR 500,000 from culture and tourism taxes, the Ministry of Culture and the Media announced. An independent jury consisting of experts in the cultural scene had evaluated the applications according to innovation, versatility and national appeal and selected the projects. This year’s focus is on feminist projects and female artists.
Funded by the Elbkulturfonds 2019, projects in the fields of visual and performing arts, literature and the intercultural field to be supported include: “One/One – Club of Love. Performances, Talks & Love for Women on St. Pauli, Welt in Teilen, Digifem! Querfeministische Positionen zur überwindung des digitalen Steinzeitalters, The great report: A Choreo-Logistic Constellation, First Fixpoetry Poetry Prize, Revolutionary Souk – Ein immersives Reenactment, Formation***Now – Now Stay Woke and Ein komplexes Erbe: Echoes from the Colonial Archive”.
Projects to reflect diversity of art
“The Elbe Culture Fund has developed into an important funding instruments for the independent scene in Hamburg. The complexity of the newly selected projects reflects the diversity of the artistic debate in Hamburg. The sponsored projects venture imaginatively into courageous themes that are relevant to social policy. They reflect artistically and critically on the relationship between man and digitalisation, questions of gender justice, or examine the city as a public and transcultural space in the past, present, and future,” said Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media.
