ECHO: in Jazz und Pop, Hamburg plays the right tune

Taking home four ECHO pop awards from Berlin, Hamburg confirmed itself as one of the leading locations of the German music business.

Taking home four ECHO pop awards from Berlin, Hamburg confirmed itself as the leading location of the German music business. For the second time after 2012, the Hamburg singer Ina Müller was honoured as “best artist rock / pop national“. Ina is at home in Hamburg‘s gay neighbourhood St Georg. There, she may run into another ECHO award winner, Stefan “DJ Koze“ Kozalla. The hip hop and electro musician was granted the jury‘s prize in recognition of his album “Amygdala“. The third echo for Hamburg was gained by a small record shop that had gained global fame among music enthusiasts for its excellent range of records and its shop window concerts with stars like Queens Of The Stone Age and Olli Schulz. Michelle Records was thus named winner as “trade partner of the year“. Birdy of Warner Music was granted Echo number four.
Since 1992, the ECHO has been honouring the most successful music production of the year in 28 categories. The prize-giving is based on the annual sales figures. On 22 May, the prize-giving ceremony of the ECHO Jazz will follow in Hamburg. New vernue for the gala event it the cultural centre Kampnagel in Barmbek. Hamburg will be hosting the glamourous event at least until 2015.
The award ceremony in the German capital of Jazz will take place the in the eve of the Elbjazz Festival, presenting newcomers and international stars a long week-end in the unique atmosphere of the Port of Hamburg. Altogether, some 50 concerts will take place on boats, at shipyards, and other unparalleled locations. This year, stars of the line-up include Diana Reeves, Hugh Masekela, and Baptiste Trotignon
