An independent editorial team will be reporting from Hamburg and Northern Germany for WELTN24. The new journalistic offensive is aimed at a middle-class readership and promises to offer more strength in opinion , analysis and background information on politics, economy and society in the future, publisher Axel Springer AG announced in a press release on Monday, 4 May 2015.
The Renaissance of Local News
The new editorial team is leb by Jörn Lauterbach, who will be responsible for the local sections of Welt am Sonntag, THE WELT and WELT KOMPAKT and the Hamburg-Channel on the homepage of “Die Welt”. According to Axel Springer, the local pages of of WELT am SONNTAG will comprise 16 pages and cover the key topics of the week. From Monday to Saturday, “Die Welt” will offer eight editorial pages focussing on Hamburg and the North.
In Hamburg, the editorial team will work on the principle “Online to Print”. For the new Hamburg-Channel on WELT Online, the editorial team in Hamburg will develop – in collaboration with the Berlin-based digital experts from WELTN24 –l additional editorial formats, including timelines, news tickers, photo galleries and blogs. An editorial focus will be on future data journalism. Also, opinion formats and activities in social media will be expanded.
