An updated app called “Kulturpunkte 2.0”, developed by the Cultural Authority Hamburg as part of its eCulture-Strategy with hamburg.de and implemented by apploft GmbH, is now available and has lots of information in English as well, a statement said Thursday (December 8). Dr. Carsten Brosda, State Councillor for Culture, said: “The ‘Kulturpunkte’ app creates digital access to culture in Hamburg. Those interested can get to know cultural facilities with the app and find out more about art in public spaces or the city’s architectural history. The English version of the app will bring Hamburg’s multifaceted and first-class cultural offers closer to international guests.”
Favourite sights – personal tour
The app gives an overview of some 300 cultural institutions in Hamburg and has details of many public art objects and urban monuments. A map shows categories such as art, museums, music, theatre, libraries, monuments and cinemas as cultural dots or “Kulturpunkte”. The app also has background information and historic photos. Users can draw up lists of their favourite sights and go on their own personal tour of the city. The app also suggests tours such as art mile, classical music or churches.
Audio tour “Palms, Ships and Concrete”
The update also has several new tours and two audio tours about art in the city centre. One audio tour called “Palms, Ships and Concrete” and the other called “Trains, Lawns and Hotels” highlight art near the Alster Lake and from the Deichtorhallen to Reeperbahn. Both tours last 90 minutes and give listeners an idea of artists, their oeuvres and how they are rooted in the urban environment.
