Civil engineering, aviation face digital challenges

"Digital Castles in the Air" series starts in HafenCity University

The BIMLab@HCU and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are hosting the first BIMLab@HCU conference entitled “Digital Castles in the Air” on February 21-22, 2019 in Hamburg’s HafenCity University. Four conference sessions will show which technologies are available, how processes are changing, the impact on people’s education and conditions needed for digital change. The conference marks the start of an event series.

Discovering perspectives

Digitalisation in the planning and construction of buildings changes the way projects are processed and how information is exchanged in future as well as the content of the professions. Co-operative, integrated processes and the use of new technologies require architects and engineers to have extended skills and knowledge. Optimization processes in aviation are being driven forward by means of digital tools. The BIMLab@HCU wants to investigate the associated challenges in joint research with the German Aerospace Center.

About BIMLab@HCU

Founded in 2018, the BIMLab@HCU aims to provide the Hamburg Metropolitan Region with a laboratory for Building Information Modelling (BIM). The co-operative working methodology for digitally managing data on buildings will be developed at the HCU Hamburg together with the planning and construction industries. At the same time, the scientific analysis of digital planning tools and the interdisciplinary exchange are to be improved.
