Chinese games developer takes over Bigpoint

Global market for online and mobile games planned with big gaming studio in Hamburg. First investments planned

China’s Youzu Interactive Co. Ltd is taking over Bipoint, a Hamburg-based games developer. The takeover is due to be completed in April when all Bigpoint shares are transferred to Youzu. Both firms say they will form one of the first, really global market places for online and mobile games and have sizeable market shares in over 200 countries.

Seven branches worldwide

Bigpoint GmbH develops computers and video games for a wide target group. Founded in 2002, the company has branches in Hamburg, Berlin, Lyon, Istanbul, Seoul, San Francisco and in Malta. Bigpoint’s best known games include Farmerama, DarkOrbit, Seafight, Drakensang Online and Battlestar Galactica Online.

Launch of Hocus Puzzle

Khaled Helioui, CEO of Bigpoint, said: “Thanks to Youzu’s support, we can continue to invest in our talented developers, the great experiences that they develop and the reach of our games.” Initial financing is believed to be in place with the imminent launch of the Hocus Puzzle game receiving a marketing budget of over EUR 30 million.

League of Angels & Knight’s Fable

Youzu Interactive Co. Ltd was founded in 2009 and is one of the leading publishers of online, mobile and massively multiplayer online games in China and the U.S. Its best-known games include League of Angels, Knight’s Fable and Magerealm. They have been published in many languages and have hundreds of millions of fans.
