Women entrepreneurs with innovative business concepts are invited to submit their applications for the IDEE Award presented by the Hamburg-based coffee roaster Albert Darboven. Applications are being accepted until the deadline of July 31, 2019. Set up in 1997, the prize encourages entrepreneurism among women, who remain severely underrepresented in the German start-up system, according to the latest Female Founders Monitor issued by the Bundesverband Deutsche Startups e. V. (Federal Association of German Startups). In April 2019, the share of start-up women in Hamburg had reached 17.9 per cent – slightly higher than the national average of 15.1 per cent,
Emphasis on degree of innovation, business concept and commitment
Three innovative business ideas will receive awards depending on the viability and novelty of the concept as well as the creation of new jobs. Female entrepreneurs, who have not been self-employed for longer than three years, are eligible to apply. These criteria will be checked on the basis of the entry in the commercial register. A total of EUR 65,000 in prize money is available. The first prize is endowed with EUR 50,000, the second with EUR 10,000 euros and the third prize with EUR 5,000 euros.
Prize awarded every two years
Manuela Rasthofer’s Terraloupe GmbH won the 2017 award with her concept for digitally measuring the environment. It combines high-resolution aerial image data with image recognition software and artificial intelligence. In this way, objects can be identified and mechanically processed, e.g. for autonomous driving. cf/sb/pb
