Applications for music city funds 2019 now being accepted

Ministry of Culture and Media sets EUR 600,00 aside for Hamburg's free music scene

Applications are now being accepted for the music city funds 2019. Those interested have until June 15, 2018 to submit their projects. In 2016, the Senate and Parliament of Hamburg had earmarked EUR 600,000 in extra annual funding to develop the free music scene in the context of financing the Elbphilharmonie’s music schedule.

Music city funds – important component

Dr. Carsten Brosda, State Councillor for Culture and Media, noted: “We wish to promote the great diversity of culture in Hamburg as the innovative power of the free music scene benefits culture overall in our city. The music city funds create a framework for artists and creative people in our city to implement their musical work and projects. In view of the free music scene’s diversity, multifaceted funding structures are important. The music city funds have become an important component and strengthens Hamburg as a city of culture in the long term.”

Promoting concepts and projects

The music city funds will give freelance orchestras, musicians, groups and ensembles an opportunity to present their work in public. Works of great artistic value and programmes with innovative concepts and events will receive special consideration as well as certain types of music and collaborations.

The Ministry of Culture and Media provides funds once a year for the period January 1-December 31. Applicants can submit only one application. An independent expert jury will select projects for funding and recommend them to the ministry.
