#moinzukunft - funds of EUR 700,000 exhausted after half an hour

Grants of EUR 700,00 for purchases of e-bikes and standard bicycles were exhausted 30 minutes after being made available on Tuesday (September 1, 2020). This comes after the Ministry of the Environment announced the continuation of grants from September 1, 2020. Residents of Hamburg can apply for grants of EUR 2,000 to buy new e-cargo bikes and EUR 500 for standard cargo bikes. The bicycles are a popular, sustainable means of transport for individuals and companies making daily deliveries.

Cargo bikes crucial to climate-friendly transport

Last autumn, around EUR 1.5 million in funds were made available nd were swiftly exhausted. Around 800 people had registered for the grant within 20 minutes. Applications for funds are longer being accepted. Commenting on the latest success, Jens Kerstan, Senator for the Environment, said:"Cargo bikes are climate-friendly and are an important part of the transport transition especially in a city with over a million inhabitants. The market offers even more exciting and practical models. Households with cargo bikes will find it much much easier to do without their own car."

People whose main residence is Hamburg are eligible for the grant regardless of status i.e. individuals, household, an association, trades people, self-employed persons or companies. Those interested must apply for the grant before purchasing a cargo bike. Around 33 per cent of the purchase price has been subsidised.
