Zeit Foundation donating prize money for "Non-Fiction Book of the Year"

"Winning one of Hamburg's twelve literary prizes has meant recognition of achievements for nearly 40 years and spurred on even more literary work," said Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media. The prize money should help authors with their work. The Zeit Foundation is donating the prize money for the award in the "Non-Fiction Book of the Year" category. "Hamburg is a city of science and that needs publicity. Apart from research and teaching, science is on a mission to impact society," said Prof Manuel Hartung, Chairman of the Board of the Zeit-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius.

Categories - from novels to non-fiction

The Hamburg Literature Awards are presented in the categories novel, short story, poetry/drama/experimental, children and youths books, comics, literary translations as well as book and non-fiction book of the year. People whose main residence is in Hamburg or in the catchment area of the public transport system are eligible to apply. However, applications cannot be submitted for the last two categories. The winners are selected by a jury, which is reconstituted annually. Brosda will present the Hamburg Literature Prizes on December 4, 2023 in the "Literaturhaus Hamburg".
