Hamburg Invest accepts Financial Times Group award in Cannes

Hamburg Invest accepted Tuesday (March 14, 2023) in Cannes an award honouring Hamburg as one of “European Cities and Regions of the Future 2023” after it topped the “Larger Cities” category. The win came during the annual global benchmark survey of high-potential business locations in Europe, published by fDi Intelligence, a subsidiary of the Financial Times group.

Innovations to boost city

"The 'City of the Future' award here at MIPIM is confirmation of our work and sends an attractive signal to international investors," said Dr Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of Hamburg Invest. Hamburg is focusing increasingly on innovation to consolidate its position as the leading business centre in northern Europe, while ensuring a high standard of living at the same time. That benefits visitors, companies, talented professionals, skilled labour and investors and is reflected by great developments in many technology and knowledge-based industries and clusters. He added: "Hamburg's central location in one of Europe's strongest and most dynamic economic regions makes the city a hotspot of all forward-looking sectors along the entire value chain."

Business friendliness and connectivity in Hamburg

The European Cities and Regions of the Future 2023 ranking benchmarked the most promising investment destinations across Europe. The survey included 370 European cities and 148 regions. The latter were ranked by their performance in the five subcategories of economic potential, business friendliness, connectivity, cost effectiveness, human capital and lifestyle - the last two of which Hamburg topped. Moreover, the Hamburg Metropolitan Region won awards in connectivity and economic potential. In view of Hamburg's extensive investments in renewable energies as well as its high standard of living, the city is becoming more and more attractive by European comparison.

Hamburg topped the rank of “European Cities and Regions of the Future 2023” in the “Larger Cities” category while London came first in the “Major Cities” category with Zurich topping the “Mid-Sized Cities” ranking.  Twenty-three Hamburg-based firms hosted a joint stand at the leading MIPIM property fair in Cannes from March 14 to 17, 2023. The annual MIPIM brings the entire value chain together offering delegates an opportunity to develop new business and to meet international stakeholders and investors.
