83 performing arts’ projects to receive funding in coming season

The Ministry for Culture and the Media has released EUR 1.8 million in funds for the performing arts in the 2022/23 season. The sum includes a once-off EUR 220,000 in additional funding for freelance artists, who have been badly hit by the pandemic, from the corona aid package for culture.

83 projects selected for funding

A jury has recommended 83 projects in spoken theatre/musical theatre/performance, dance, children's and youth theatre, basic and research promotion as well as conceptual and young talents for funding. A vast number of projects had been submitted for the 2022/23 season.

Increased aid for independent artists

Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media, pointed out: "Freelance artists bring new productions to stages across Hamburg even in conditions exacerbated by the pandemic. We owe those in all genres different perspectives on the pressing issues of the day." The increased funding for projects in the independent scene amounts to an appreciation of creative work and ensures that art and culture can unfold even in challenging times, he added.
