Applications for Innovation in Digital Equality Award (IDEA) underway
The senate in Hamburg is holding the Innovation in Digital Equality Award (IDEA) 2020 to promote equality in the digital world and to highlight positive examples. The prize honours people and ideas that have made a significant contribution to equality in the digital world through outstanding and forward-looking activities. The award worth EUR 25,000 will be presented every two years until 2026. Applications are welcome from individuals, start-ups and associations by the deadline of September 15, 2020. The awards will be presented during a reception in the senate on November 27, 2020.
Awards in two categories
The prizes will be presented in the categories "Promotional Prize" and "Honorary Prize". The former honours technical innovations or innovative concepts that have already been developed and that digitise analogue solutions for equal opportunities or develop equal opportunities in digital terms. The "Honorary Award" honours women as role models and those who have made outstanding contributions to gender equality in the digital world or who have gone to great efforts to promote and shape the digital economy. "Equal participation of women in all areas of life is of enormous social importance. Equal opportunities must be guaranteed, especially in the digital space, which is increasingly influencing social interaction - the corona pandemic has shown us this again," said Katharina Fegebank, Senator for Science, Research and Equality.
Deadline for applications
Entry forms and information on the award are available on www.hamburg.de. You can either apply yourself or nominate someone for the award by September 15, 2020. The winner of the "Promotional Prize" category will receive EUR 25,000 maximum to fund the implementation and further develop their ideas. The submitted entries can focus on any part of life and must digitally solve or counteract gender discrimination on the Internet. The prize targets women who have inspired and encouraged other women and girls to seize the opportunities of digitalisation through their work for equality in the digital world and through Digital Excellence.
