"Ambient" podcast making Hamburg audible

Podcast with sounds of Hamburg now online - available every second Friday

Hamburg Tourismus GmbH (HHT) is publishing the first podcast of a city featuring sounds of Hamburg. The podcast, entitled, “Weil wir Hamburg sind” (literally “Because we are Hamburg”), was produced with Podstars OMR. Around 43 per cent of Germans listened to podcasts in 2022 compared to a mere 14 per cent in 2016, a survey by Statista has found. Podcasts have long since become an everyday companion.

Positioning Hamburg as a place of longing

"Hamburg has always stood for the courage to try out new things and ideas. This new podcast is yet another facet of our large-scale, 360-degree campaign "Because we are Hamburg" to position Hamburg as a place of longing," said Michael Otremba, Managing Director of Hamburg Tourism. Vincent Kittmann, Managing Director of Podstars OMR, stressed the importance of the new podcast: "In this way, we are expanding Germany's podcast spectrum with HHT and are positioning the city as a pioneer."

Podcast series dedicated to well-known places

Each episode highlights a new aspect of Hamburg and the corresponding acoustics. The first of 12 episodes started on December 16, 2022 and immersed listeners into the sounds of Christmas in Hamburg. The podcast is available on the Hamburg Tourismus website and features the sounds of the Port of Hamburg at present.
