Site to ensure supply of handicraft businesses in densely populated districts

Around 20 businesses and craftspeople will soon benefit from a new 6,200 square metre, six-storey building on a 3,000 square metre, model business park to be built in Altona, Hamburg Invest announced Friday (October 22, 2021). New-generation business parks play an increasingly important role in Hamburg's densely populated districts. The new site should ensure the local of supply of craft businesses.

More space for craftspeople

"The new commercial space in a dense inner-city area is important for the economy and to ensure that local craftsmen are not forced out of those areas," said Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics. Dr. Stefanie von Berg, Head of the Altona District Authority, added: "We want lively and livable neighborhoods in Altona. That can only be achieved by creating high-quality space for craftspeople and businesses and housing construction. The new business park will prevent businesses from moving to the surrounding area and shorter journeys should benefit the climate."

Model project for Hamburg

The project will be developed by DESA Immobilien Verwaltungsgesellschaft in co-operation with Auriva and Depenbrock, according to Hamburg Invest. Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of Hamburg Invest, stressed: "The district-based supply of the population with resident crafts businesses is important. We are pleased that it has now been possible to launch this model craftsmen's and business park in Altona." Hamburg Invest is pivotal to finding suitable sites and guides all those involved through the approval procedure.
