Six games made in Hamburg get EUR 398,000 in prototype funding
Gamecity Hamburg announced Tuesday (May 17, 2022) six Hamburg-based recipients of EUR 398,000 in funding for digital game prototypes. The funds are non-repayable and the scheme give start-ups an opportunity to launch on the demanding, international games market.
Great diversity of funded games
The high quality of the projects submitted prompted the awarding committee to fully use the prototype funding budget available for 2022 in this funding round. Dennis Schoubye, Head of Gamecity Hamburg, spoke of a "positive dynamic in the quality of applications for prototype funding", adding, "We also see positive effects from other support programmes like our Games Lift Incubator and our new event format 'Pitch Level Up'." Three of the funded projects stem from teams and developers who have previously completed the Games Lift Incubator.
The winning projects include the strategy game Hexagone by Tiny Roar and the Super Party Verse by Super Crowd Entertainment which scooped EUR 80,000 each. Dein Skat by Bestjack Entertainment, Alchymia by Pseudoscience Interactive and Prospector by Symmetry Break Studio received EUR 70,000 respectively. Denise Koch, the developer of Monstersongs VR, which is a mix of a musical and game, won EUR 28,000 in funding.
A total of 18 solo developers, teams and companies had applied for this year's prototype funding. Since the launch of the prototype funding in 2020, Gamecity Hamburg has funded 22 prototypes with a grand total of EUR 1,240,000. The next application round begins in Spring 2023.
