Centre to built on HAW Hamburg's "Energy Campus"

The "Alliance for the Industry of the Future" presented the "Industrial Metropolis Hamburg" report Thursday (April 29, 2021) in City Hall by invitation of Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg. Representatives of the Hamburg Industry Association (IVH) and of industrial companies met for top-level talks with special emphasis on a new research centre to be built at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences Energy Campus in Bergedorf. Some 60 scientists will conduct research there in what is essentially a demonstration centre for sector coupling. The measure was hailed as a great success after the launch of the North German Real Laboratory in April to use hydrogen technologies on an industrial scale in numerous pilot projects. This latest laboratory  exemplifies networking between industry and research.

New opportunities in demonstration centre

Special emphasis will be on testing and presenting hydrogen technologies in various forms of use and in close partnership with industrial companies across the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. The demonstration centre will also provide the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES) with another research facility. In addition to the existing test stand for wind turbine blade bearings, expertise in the field of hydrogen production and its use will be bundled there in future.

Progress in removing barriers to investment

Andreas Rieckhoff, State Councillor at the Ministry of Economics and Innovation, presented the main fields of the senate's industrial policy in the "Industrial Metropolis Hamburg" report. Progress since the founding of the "Alliance for the Industry of the Future" in 2019 has been made, among others, in removing barriers to investment. The city is developing a digital track and trace procedure as part of a pilot project in which companies can view the current status of approval procedures.

Simpler search for corporate sites

The senate has expanded economic development activities and transferred the development and marketing of urban commercial and industrial sites in recent years. Hamburg Invest operates on the market as a one-stop agency and investment agency and is proving successful. This change has simplified the search for corporate sites in Hamburg. Swifter planning and investment security are assured and without bureaucracy, which makes for more efficient procedures and economic growth in Hamburg.
