Regional companies sign declaration of intent - project to save over 2,000 metric tons of CO2 annually from 2023

Hypion, a hydrogen company based Schleswig-Holstein, has announced plans for a hydrogen filling station for heavy-duty lorries from 2023. This comes after a declaration of intent, steered by Hypion, the Logistics Initiative Schleswig-Holstein and the Lubeck Chamber of Industry and Commerce, was signed in late February. The consortium includes several regional energy, logistics and industrial companies.

Green hydrogen for more sustainable freight transport

The group of 14 companies hopes to set up a functioning hydrogen value chain consisting of production, logistics, distribution and application. The filling station is due for completion in 2023. More than 2,000 tonnes of CO2 per year could be saved by converting the propulsion systems of vehicles from the construction and logistics sector, according to Dr Stefan Rehm, Hypion's Director of Development. The company is negotiating the site of the filling station, planning and approval with the City of Lubeck at present.

Hypion plans to establish five hydrogen-based mobility hubs in Schleswig-Holstein in the coming years as part of a funding agreement with the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The company announced a corresponding project in Neumunster in June 2021. The use of hydrogen drives would make the transport of heavy goods CO2-neutral and quieter in future.
