Two leading technology and business centres sign agreement
Dr Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economics, and Masao Uchibori, Governor of the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Hamburg Tuesday (April 25, 2023) deepening energy policy co-operation in place since the 2011 nuclear reactor accident in Fukushima.

Fukushima Prefecture is committed to renewable energy in Japan and offers a high share of green energy. It is also home to renowned research institutions and plays an important role as a hydrogen supplier. Hamburg, on the other hand, is a leading European centre of wind power and hydrogen and many ongoing energy projects to decarbonise the local economy. A free trade agreement between Japan and Germany sees both nations co-operate closely in high-tech, green energy and many other economic sectors.
