Forward-looking start-ups urged to enter Future Hamburg Award 2023

25 April 2023
Calling all start-ups in logistics, mobility or green tech - deadline on July 9

Start-ups in all corners of the globe with business models in logistics, mobility and green technology now have until the deadline of July 9, 2023 to apply for the Future Hamburg Award. Given many similar challenges such as the climate crisis, a widespread shortage of housing and increasing traffic, the contest is focusing on smart solutions for more sustainability and that will shape the standard of living in future. International and national founders can apply for one of three awards, which will be presented on October 5, 2023 during the international Plug and Play Expo at Factory Hammerbrooklyn in Hamburg.

Hamburg searching for future-orientated start-ups

Dr Melanie LeonhardHamburg’s Minister of Economics and Innovation, said: "Decisions on the appearance of cities in future are frequently made today. That requires strong ideas. The Future Hamburg Award 2023 targets start-ups that continue to develop momentum in logistics, mobility and green tech. We are looking for solutions that can improve the standard of living in our city. Hamburg as a centre of innovation offers ample leeway and an inspiring environment towards that goal.” Dr Rolf Strittmatter, CEO of Hamburg Marketing GmbH and Managing Director of Hamburg Invest, said: “This award allows us to help pioneering start-ups all over the world realise their innovation and technology-based business models in Hamburg and to develop sustainable solutions for forward-looking, competitive cities.”

Eligibilty and prizes

The award honours international and national start-ups whose digital and sustainable business models have been on the market for at least two years, but no more than four. The winners of the first prize will take part in a one-month accelerator programme at the Plug and Play Tech Center headquarters in Silicon Valley, California. The winners of the second prize will be mentored by an established technology innovation expert, while the winners of the third prize can attend a business preparation workshop with Plug and Play. The second and third prize-winners will receive pitch training for start-ups. The winners will be selected by a jury of experts including Dr Ralf Belusa (Hapag-Lloyd AG/Phoenix Group), Petra Vorsteher (AI Startup Hub Hamburg), Georg Zembacher (Toyota Tsusho Nexty Electronics Europe GmbH) and Veronika Reichboth (Startup Unit, Hamburg Invest).
