The Hamburg Metropolitan Region is hosting the "Science and Digitalisation: Artificial Intelligence" online Zoom event between 6 pm and 9 pm on Tuesday (November 8, 2022) focusing on machine learning in engineering and using AI for quality assurance and improved procedures. The free event is the second in a series called "WissenSchaf(f)t.Unternehmen" (literally: Knowledge Creation) to boost innovations, knowledge transfer between science and companies and to open up opportunities for collaborations, organisers said.

Examples of applied research

Six universities and research institutes will present digital applications, e.g., for improving material processing and quality assurance. Short pitches will give delegates an overview of the various projects. Afterwards, the focal points can be explored in greater depth in "talk-to-sessions". Helmut Schmidt University will outline machine learning for engineering applications. A session by the University of Applied Sciences (HAW) will focus on the sensor-based use of AI to process high-performance materials.

Local support for companies

The focus will also be on increased digitalisation and AI in companies in Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. The first event in June focused on new materials and creating products from them. In this round, universities in Hamburg will address concrete means of using AI in SMEs (HAW Hamburg) or applying natural language processing to interactive service processes (University of Hamburg). Delegates will also have an opportunity to network with science and business representatives.

Free online event

The free event targets mainly start-ups, established companies, scientists and students keen on using digital applications and AI in their daily work. More information about the "Wissenschaf(f)t Digitalisierung" event can be found on the website.
