The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) won first prize Wednesday (June 28th) in a competition run by the Minsitry for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youths as Germany’s most family-friendly company. The award was achieved in the “Large Company” category (over 1,000 employees) in the “Success Factor Family”. The honour comes with a cash prize of EUR 5,000 that was presented in the Berliner Congress Center.
Care offers and subsidisation
Manuela Schwesig, German Minister for Families said: “We are honouring the UKE as a model company in the health sector and one that shows that family and working life are compatible.” Michael van Loo, Head of UKE’s HR, Legal and Organisational Department, said: “The UKE’s day nursery, holiday and emergency care or supporting staff with relatives, who need care, are just some examples of our family-friendly offers. Our other initiatives such as subsidising the care of small children are just some of the constant, newly added projects.”
Other prize categories
In March, auditors from the berufundfamilie Service GmbH had assessed family-friendly measures at UKE. Judges from commerce, science and politics then selected winners. UKE triumphed over 12 other large companies including another hospital. Five other companies won prizes in the categories, Small Companies, Medium-Sized Companies, Father-Friendly Personnel Policies, Co-Operation with Local Partners and Innovation: Compatibility in the Digital World.
