Around 74 health insurers are now offering the certified Tinnitus app developed by the Hamburg-based Sonormed. The start-up has also developed new, basic therapy that provides learning and exercise programmes for patients after visits to specialists. Founded in 2012, the ehealth start-up Sonormed has made a name for itself far beyond the borders of the Hanseatic city. Developed by Jörg Land, Matthias Lanz and Andreas Nötzel, Sonormed’s app offers sufferers of tinnitus an individual course of treatment using Tinnitracks.
Available anywhere 24/7
The interactive app is based on treatment recommended by experts on tinnitus and scientists. The patients learn ways and techniques of making life with tinnitus easier. The offer was developed in co-operation with the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), the Deutscher Berufsverband der Hals-Nasen-Ohrenärzte e. V. (German Association of Ear, Nose and Throat Doctors) and the Schön Klinik Roseneck and is currently available in Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Bavaria.
South by Southwest
In 2015, Sonormed’s app won the Digital Health & Life Sciences Technologies category at the South by Southwest creative fair (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. The opportunity to pitch a business idea alone is considered an accolade and a win boosts a start-up’s chances considerably. SXSW has proved a launching pad for companies in the past and in 2007, Twitter reached a breakthrough there.
