A total of 12,668 children were born in the first half of 2018 with 12,412 births. Some 330 more children were born in Hamburg’s obstetrics and birth centres than in the same period last year. In total, 24,969 births in 2017 led to 25,529 children. The obstetrics department at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) registered the highest number of children in the first half of 2018 with 1,764 newborns.
Significantly more children than in 2017
“The high in Hamburg continues. A large number of parents from Hamburg and the surrounding area continue to rely on birth clinics with high birth rates and thus a wealth of experience. I wish all parents and newborns a good start into a new life,” said Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks, Senator for Health.
