The number of births in Hamburg remained consistently high at 25,077 births in 2018, a press release said Thursday (January 10, 2019). A total of 25,576 children were born in Hamburg’s maternity clinics and the birth centre. Five hospitals recorded more than 3,000 births each over a mere three in 2017. Last year, obstetricians at Catholic Marienkrankenhaus (3,565 children), the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE/3,424), the Asklepios Klinik Altona (3,398), the Asklepios Klinik Barmbek (3,281) and the Albertinen-Krankenhaus (3,128) registered the highest number of newborn babies.
“Five hospitals in Hamburg hospitals exceeded the 3,000-birth mark in 2018, and three of them even reported the highest number of births in years. That is a good sign. I am delighted with the trust that parents place in the obstetric departments at our hospitals and their staff,” said Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks, Senator for Health.
