Industry network “foodactive“ launched to create synergies

From Schöller‘s ice cream plant to Stollwerck‘s chocolate factory in Norderstedt Schokolade and Dr. Oetker‘s frozen pizza site at Wittenburg: the Hamburg Metropolitan Region boasts a booming food industry, with global players such iglo, Unilever, Bacardi or Kühne calling Hamburg their home. Business, science, and politics are now linked by the industry‘s newly launched network foodactive e.V.

What started in 2008 as a nutrition initiative of Süderelbe AG in co-operation with the districts of Uelzen and Lüchow-Dannenberg, has meanwhile developed into the registered association covering the food industry‘s interests of the entire Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Key objectives of the platform are to realise synergies and competitive advantages. SMEs, in particular, thrive on co-operation and the mutual exchange of experience. The projects and initiatives of foodactive thus support valuable contacts, access to markets and the search for qualified personnel. Foodactive thus co-operates with the Lübeck-based industry initiative FoodRegio, the food industry network of Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony‘s food industry competence center NieKE.

With 420 companies, 42,000 staff and an annual turnover of 14 billion euro, the food industry is the second most important industry in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. By expanding the cross-state co-operation, the Hamburg Metropolitan Region sharpens its profile as a leading location of the food industry and underlines the importance of its powerful industry.
