"Work in Progress" - how is working changing our environment?

Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft and Kampnagel promoting dialogue with artists, companies and public institutions. Emphasis on "Effectiveness of our Actions"

The Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, a municipal institution that promotes Hamburg’s creative industries, is holding the fifth edition of “Work in Progress” from April 14-15, 2016 at the Kampnagel cultural centre. This year, participants and representatives of galleries, start-ups, co-creating spaces and NGOs will discuss “Effectiveness of our Actions” at the speakers’ work places.

W.I.R. – work and integration for refugees

As part of a tour entitled “Refugees welcome – from the welcoming culture to sustainable, future perspectives for refugees”, participants can visit, for instance, morethanshelters – a Hamburg-based company specialising in tent accommodation for refugees or staff of W.I.R. – work and integration for refugees” that was initiated by the social security office, the Agentur für Arbeit employment agency and the Jobcenter to help refugees gain access to the labour market. The tour is one of five on offer.

Keynote speeches in Kampnagel

Other focal points of the themed tours are social participation, ecological sustainability, how the city’s development shapes living together as well as the effect of art on society. The congress will begin in Kampnagel with a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart, who among others, is head of the Hamburg environmental institute (HUI) and managing director of the international research and consulting institute EPEA that is based in Hamburg. At the close of the tours, the participants will return to the culture centre to share their impressions.

“Effectiveness of our Actions”

The title, “Effectiveness of our Actions”, asks whether work changes the environment in the desired way. The themed tours allow participants to choose a perspective – individual, artistic, entrepreneurial, but definitely social – from which to discuss the issue.
